Sea★Life Centre, Dive In
Last Saturday we hit the road for a 90 minute-trip to the Belgian seaside to visite a marine park. The weather was not fair to us, still we spent good moments with the kids. The centre in itself is rather small, but it also hosts a seal rescue centre and it was astonishing to learn that so many sick animals wash up on our coasts each year. We saw a baby seal pup in very bad shape and the rescue team explained how they help them feed themselves (some pups are still to be nursed upon their arrival at the centre) before releasing them back into the wild once they are strong enough to survive. Visitors were invited to take a look at the medical care given to the permanent residents. We watched the sea lions and seals ‘show’ (though they said it’s medical care and not a show per se). We now know the difference between seals and sea lions. At the entrance, Loïs and Daniel had been given a small booklet in which they had to collect stamps at each attraction (fishes, seals, otters, pinguins,…). And the 5 of us climbed the ‘Rocky’s climbing adventure’ – yes, even Logan in the baby carrier! – just in time before the big shower rain.
All in all a nice outing.
